The America Innovazione Award was presented by the Italy USA Foundation, which saw in Salvo Salerno that “Chutzpah”, or rebellious and challenging audacity, both of which are inexplicable elements but which distinguish those who innovate, and in REIWA, a visionary and impactful entrepreneurial project.
The award, in its first edition, was created to enhance the relationship between the USA and Italy through a common thread: the innovative revolution.
Because if there is a fertile ground for exchange between the Italian and American peoples, it is precisely the forward-looking entrepreneurial culture and its strategic potential.
Evolution, growth and development are, not by chance, the principles that unite the 500 award-winning entrepreneurial talents and that have evidently found in REIWA a structured project and their most complete expression.
"It is certainly difficult, but also very rewarding, because it means actively contributing to the development of the land we love," commented CEO Salvo Salerno at the award presentation.
As a start-up born in Sicily, REIWA could have suffered from the “congenital'”limitations of a peripheral territory, too often told only through stereotypes and clichés. Yet this did not happen, because REIWA is rooted in a social and cultural mission, even more so than a corporate one, carried out every day by Salvo Salerno and enthusiastically shared by the entire REIWA team.
The Italian and Sicilian entrepreneurial fabric, specifically, can only grow if it is nurtured by heterogeneous stimuli, strengthened by a continuous tension towards contamination. And in this case, the input came from the United States, the cradle par excellence of corporate culture: the America Innovazione Award presented CEO Salvo Salerno with an important opportunity to consolidate his vision through an extraordinary scholarship to take advantage of the Foundation's exclusive master's programme in 'Leadership for International Relations and Made in Italy'.
Just as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin planted the US flag on the lunar surface with Apollo 11, we can say that Salvo Salerno and Salvatore Occhipinti with REIWA have metaphorically planted an Italian - Sicilian - flag in the USA.
